Frequently Asked Questions

When and where do you have dances?
We have a DJ dance on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month at First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church, 1959 Sandy Lane, Fort Worth, TX 76112.
We also have a live band dance on the months that have a 5th Friday at Swingtime Center, 5100 SE Loop 820, Fort Worth, TX 76140, but check our web-site for updates because this location may change.

Do you have dance lessons?
Yes, we have a beginning east coast swing dance lesson before every dance.

I am single; will there be someone for me to dance with?
Yes! In fact, we encourage dancing with different people to improve your dancing skills. We also encourage follows to ask leads to dance as well as the leads to ask follows to dance.

What kind of music do you play at your dance?
Typically, we play 1930 and 1940 Swing tunes. Occasionally, we will play other swing tunes from the ’20s to the present date.

What kind of shoes do you recommended for dancing?
We recommend comfortable shoes with smooth leather soles or dance shoes with felt soles. Flip-flops, open toe shoes, rubber sole shoes, or bare feet could result in injury to your feet or knees.

What do I wear to your dance?
We are typically a casual venue but anything goes. Some wear blue jeans, some ladies wear dresses or skirts, and some like to dress vintage. Swing dancing is very active and it is common for leaders to bring a clean and dry shirt to change into.

What is Dance etiquette?
Dance etiquette is being aware of those dancing around you, especially at times when the dance floor is crowded. Please do not be a pain in someone else’s foot. When you do step on someone, please stop to apologize, and make sure they are ok. Please no aerials unless during a Jam Circle.

What are the benefits of being a FWSDS member?
Benefits include $2 off admission to regular FWSDS events and $5 off admission to our live band dances. Our membership is also accepted by other Texas Swing Dance organizations. For example, Dallas Swing Dance Syndicate will honor our membership and let us in for their member price. Membership also entitles you to run for an officer position and vote when elections are held. The cost is only $15 for a full year membership.

I'm not a member can I still attend your dance?
Yes, we welcome everyone.
